“There are two key reasons why everyone at North Hertfordshire College recognises its obligation to Equality & Diversity.

The first is that we have a legal obligation to do so and penalties for non compliance can be severe.
The second is that at NHC we all have a moral obligation to act in the best interests of students, our employees and our colleagues.
Equality & Diversity is central to the College’s policy on health and wellbeing of all staff and students, regardless of background or status. Excellent management of equality and diversity impacts positively on our culture, reputation and success. Investment in our people and the resources needed to deliver a truly inclusive college will yield significant benefits in learner and staff retention and overall college performance

Our College Mission focuses upon an aspiration for outstanding teaching and excellent customer service. Neither of these are achievable without a well embedded culture that values difference and promotes equality. The College is therefore strategic in its approach to equality and diversity. We recognise 5 key challenges in equality and diversity:

1. The need to ensure that everyone working or in contact with NHC understands the legal requirements, the moral imperative and the Business/Education Case for Equality & Diversity.
2. The requirement for cross college commitment to cultural change through an Equality and Diversity Strategy embedded within our Strategic Plan.
3. The mainstreaming of equality and diversity into all aspects of our HR planning and management.
4. The creation of a curriculum, enrichment and tutorial programme that prepares all learners to live and work in a diverse and multicultural society.
5. The integration of equality and diversity policy and practice within all key college policies.

This web portal provides open access to all students, staff and stakeholders who wish to review our progress in addressing these 5 key equality and diversity challenges”.
