NHC launches the Unity Network

North Hertfordshire College has officially launched its Unity network, enabling anyone linked to a local organisation to make new contacts, share expertise and resources and expand debates around equality and diversity in the workplace.

The launch event was attended by a wide variety of representatives from local businesses and community organisations. Chris McLean, Vice Principal of NHC gave a keynote introduction and Sarah James, Time to Change East Of England Regional co-ordinator lead a session on what your organisation needs to know about tackling mental health stigma. Visitors also enjoyed the latest exhibition from local artist Hollis Dixon, whose vibrant painting and poetry explores issues around mental health awareness.

Polly Price, Equality and Diversity Officer at NHC explained: “Unity is different to other networks in the area, the network aims to support organisations in Hertfordshire that have an interest in Equality and Diversity and it also has an on online presence where organisations can share information and resources. Each network session will include an expert speaker who will deliver free equality and diversity training to organisations who may not otherwise be able to afford it. I firmly believe the unity network will support local organisations to share some of the amazing innovation that is already happening and also help organisations learn from each other and grow as a result. The network is a demonstration of NHC’s real commitment to equality and diversity and supporting the local community.”

Sarah James added: “It was real pleasure to be part of the Unity Network launch event at North Hertfordshire College. It's great to work in partnership with organisations that have a real commitment to embedding diversity at all levels in their organisations, and who are seeking to bring about meaningful change for people with experience of mental health problems.”
