Apprenticeships for Employers

Apprenticeships are an ideal way to train new and existing employees with industry specific skills whilst equipping them with a nationally recognised qualification. By choosing to become an apprentice a young person has decided on and committed to their chosen career path giving you as their employer a motivated individual who can bring the skills they learn at college directly into your work place.

Apprentices typically spend one day a week at college learning relevant industry skills and the other four days a week at work (this could vary depending on the apprenticeship).

The Apprenticeship Vacancy Online (AVOL)

Launched in January 2009 the AVOL is a web based service which enables Employers to advertise Apprenticeship job opportunities for free by linking up with a local training provider. At North Hertfordshire College we can upload your advertisement for you and help you in selecting candidates for interview.

Apprenticeships for Existing Employees

An Apprenticeship may be an appropriate method to up-skill your existing workforce. Not only do Apprenticeships improve the technical abilities and efficiencies of your employees, they also improve numeracy, literacy, IT and communication skills.

Apprenticeship Qualifications

Apprenticeships can last anything from 1 – 4 years depending on the level of qualification the Apprentice is studying for. Qualifications gained can be a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) level 2 or 3, Keys Skills/Functional Skills Qualifications or a technical certificate such as BTEC or City and Guilds.
