Catering

NHC was recommended to me and I’m glad it was! I have been trained to work at the top of the Catering Industry. I currently work as a Restaurant Manager at the Centre for the Arts college site. We hold many functions there and sometimes they are challenging but always enjoyable - from this I have learnt to cope with pressure. Our customers’ book year after year for the speciality evenings - my favourite would have to be the Spanish Night which is a menu based on traditional tapas dishes.

The courses are hard work but students get lots of help and support from lecturers so if anyone’s worried about the theory side there is no need to be. It’s definitely the practical side which the students like the most; they like trying out my role, acting as the restaurant manager and organising the staff in the front of house. Students are taught to be professional at all times and are required to wear uniforms in the front of house and chef whites in the kitchen; just as you would in the industry.

“I started off my career at NHC studying in the Catering and Hospitality department, and now I work in it. I run the Centre for the Arts restaurant and now I’m training to be an Assessor. NHC has taught me skills I can use anywhere in the world and I’m still discovering more skills I never knew I had!”
